Manual electromagnetic telephone. The subscriber in order to communicate with another subscriber had to call the call center. This was done by twisting a magneto-electric part, the crank that was part of the phone. The call center received the signal, the telephone operator asked the subscriber what number he would like to talk to and connected the two phones.
Despite the fact that the automatic telephone was invented very early in Greece, manual phones continued to operate in remote villages until the 1990s.
