The event "Volunteering = Commitment" co-organized with the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and the Association of Friends of the STM took place with great success on Sunday, December 8, 2019, in the crowded auditorium of the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras (STM). The event was attended by Heads of Departments and faculty members of the UP, individuals and representatives of institutions that were honored, students, Friends of the Museum Association and many people. The event was honored by the presence of the Deputy Regional Minister of Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation Mr. Fokion Zaimis.
The Director of the STM, Associate Professor I. Iliopoulos opened the event and was greeted by the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences Professor G. Papatheodorou, the Deputy Regional Director of Entrepreneurship, Research and Innovation Mr. Fokion Zaimos and Professor E. Pyrgiotis of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering who stressed the importance of volunteers for the STM.
In continuation, the Dean of the School of Natural Sciences honored the professors of the Department, E. Vitoratos and D. Papaioannou for their contribution to the Department. This was followed by a speech by Professor E. Vitoratos, former Director of STM on "Volunteering & Science Museums".
In continuation was the awarding of honorary diplomas to all those volunteers, associates, teachers, schools and sponsors, who supported in any way the educational programs, events, newsletter, educational robotics, or the smooth operation of the Museum during the academic year 2018-2019. Diplomas were awarded to 156 people (students, scientists, technicians, teachers), plows, schools that collaborated with the STM within networks and sponsors.
The celebration reached its end with the award-winning choir of St. Andreas Eglykada Patras BelCantes with Maestro Elena Droukopoulou presenting a very interesting program with excellent interpretation. After the event, the public had the opportunity to tour the premises of the STM and attend its permanent and temporary exhibitions, followed by a small reception.
