Τhe event on "New Communication Technologies, New Services" was held with great success on October 17, 2012, at the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras. It was the first of a series of events on New Communication Technologies and the Internet, organized by the STM for the 2012-2013 Academic Year and broadcast online. It was co-organized by the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras and the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia.

The event was opened by the Director of the STM, President of the Department of Physics, Prof.Evangelos Vitoratos and then the Director of Secondary Education Mrs.Eugenia Pierri, who spoke about the important relationship that has developed between the Museum and the Secondary Education through the Department of Cultural Affairs. The event was attended by, among others, the former Rector of the University of Patras Mr.C.Hatzitheodorou, the President of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Patras Mr.K.Bourdoulis, counselors and managers of other school activities, as well as faculty members, teachers and students.

The program of the speeches began with the Prof. of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mr.Stavros Kotsopoulos, on "Communication Systems and Convergence of Technologies to Support Broadband Services", in which the developments in wireless communications nationally and internationally and the passage of mobile technology from the 1st  to the 5th generation, with emphasis on the required convergence of existing technologies was presented. Then the professor in the same department, Mr.Dimitris Lymperopoulos, presented "The developments of Telecommunication Services over time", which with the support of technology have as the main purpose of the creation of a suitable ideal communication environment, which allows people who are in different geographical points to communicate as if they are in the same place.

The Manager of Vodafone Corporate Responsibility, Ms.Nafsika Zevgoli, presented one such service, the "Vodafone Telemedicine Program: Mobile communication technology in the health care", a program to provide a high level of specialized health care services to everyone, regardless of their place of residence, which has been operating since 2006, utilizing the dynamically evolving mobile telephony network of the company, in the field of health. The program is already implemented in 30 remote Municipalities throughout Greece from Kastoria and Drama to Kastelorizo ​​and Gavdos.

The Assistant Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Mr.Spyros Denazis, in his speech on "Mobile Computing and Communications: Looking to the Future?" presented, among other things, the current situation on the Mobile Internet and the possible features that it will have in the future. The Professor of the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics, of the University of Patras and scientific advisor of Research Unit 6 in Computer Technology Institute and Press - Diophantus, Patras, Greece, Mr.Christos Bouras, in his speech entitled "Mobile Internet & Mobile Applications", presented new & original mobile applications that receive and process data from the web. Given that access to the Internet through mobile networks is now a given for all mobile phone companies operating in Greece, mobile applications can be a business opportunity and can monopolize the buying interest of the public.

In the end, the professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Patras, Mr.Odysseas Koufopavlou, in his speech entitled "Mobile Communication Security" presented the most important security features in mobile communications, described some techniques used for wireless and mobile communications security and presented weaknesses, shortcomings and security gaps in existing mobile communication systems.
