The Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras, in collaboration with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Achaia – Environmental Education, is organizing the third consecutive local photography competition. The theme of this year's competition is:
"Drop by drop, water drills through the stone"
The objectives of the competition are for students to:
- Explore the impact of water on minerals, rocks, and soil, understanding its erosive and transformative power.
- Comprehend the crucial role of water in sustaining and functioning aquatic ecosystems, both terrestrial and marine.
- Discover the significance of the interaction between water and rock in shaping landforms, natural formations, and unique landscapes.
- Understand the vital importance of proper management and protection of aquatic ecosystems to preserve biodiversity and the survival of all organisms, including humans.
- Raise awareness about the protection of natural resources, such as water and rocks, as the foundation of human well-being and sustainable development in their region.
In this context, student environmental groups from schools in Achaia that are implementing Environmental Education programs (on any theme) during the current school year are invited to:
- Discover "geomorphs" that reveal the relationship between soil, rocks, minerals, and water (fresh or seawater) in their area, Achaia.
- Photograph such sites in Achaia.
- Write a title and caption with brief information on the accompanying document for each photo, as attached in the circular.
- Upload their photos and accompanying documents to a shared storage space (drive) by April 30, 2025. The link will be provided to the participants.
The collected material will form a significant educational collection of photographs depicting the effect of water on terrestrial ecosystems and minerals/rocks. This collection will be utilized by the organizers through:
