Permanent exhibition "Telecommunications in our lives"

The STM’s current thematic exhibition is titled, "Telecommunications in our lives", which shows the characteristics of telecommunications and their development in three themes:

1. Historical development of Telecommunications, which includes:

Ancient Telecommunications,
The Telecommunications chronology from mid 17th century until today,
Screening of scenes from Greek and foreign cinema, using the telephone,
Interactive Application for the History of Telecommunications,
Interactive Application for ancient means of Telecommunications.

2. Basic Physics principles which formed the basis for the development of telecommunications, including demonstrations of experiments on the following topics listed below:

Electromagnetism

Induction Experiments,
Oersted Experiment,
Diversion of an electron beam using a magnet,
Diversion of a current-carrying conductor by means of a magnetic field.

Waves - Optics

Creation of waves in a water tank,
Laser Optics: Reflection - Refraction,
Oscillation of Synthesis: Lissajous Figures, Beats, Amplitude and Frequency Modulation,
A Short Range Optical Communication System.

Acoustics

Sound production,
Sound propagation,
Sound features,
Sound phenomena.

Electronics

Electronic data,
Lamps / transistors,
Ιntegrated circuits,
Digital Logic Gates.

3. Old and modern telecommunications, including museum, photographic, audiovisual and interactive material and information on:

Wired Telephony,
Wireless Telephony,
Satellite Communication,
Mobile Telephony,
Different types of Telephone Exchange units, and a demonstration of the operation of the Telephone Exchange unit ATZ-65,
Radio Communication,
Sound.
