Dear Members of the University Community,
Dear Friends,
It is with great joy and honor that, as Director of the Science and Technology Museum of our University, I inform you that the Museum’s Curator, Mrs. Peny Theologi-Gouti, has been elected President of the Hellenic National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This election is a recognition of her knowledge and experience, as well as her dynamism and vision to lead the Hellenic Committee into the future.
It is worth highlighting that this marks the first time, in the 42 years since the founding of the Hellenic National Committee of ICOM, that someone working at a University Museum—and notably outside of Athens—has been elected to the position of President.
Mrs. Peny Theologi-Gouti has previously served twice as Vice-President and once as Secretary of the Hellenic National Committee of ICOM. She has also held the roles of Vice-President and Secretary of ICOM-UMAC (the International Committee for University Museums and Collections), of which she is a founding member. Most recently, in December 2024, she was appointed by the ICOM Executive Board as Chair of the International Resolutions Committee of ICOM, which is tasked with shaping the strategic directions and mission of museums globally over the next three years.
This new distinction for Mrs. Theologi-Gouti is a great honor for the Science and Technology Museum and for our University! I am confident that her presidency will have a thoroughly positive impact on all the Museums within our University.
Personally, together with the entire staff, our collaborators, and volunteers, we are truly happy that the Science and Technology Museum is fortunate to have Mrs. Theologi-Gouti organizing its activities, guiding its course, and inspiring us through a spirit of teamwork, cooperation, and innovation.
With respect,
Ioannis Iliopoulos
Director, Science and Technology Museum
