The event: "Volunteering and Culture. STM honors its Volunteers" was held with great success on Saturday, Dec.13, 2014 evening at the Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras.

Co-organized by the STM UP and the Friends Association of STM. The event was to honor Andreas Economopoulos, an important STM volunteer who passed away early in life, as well as all those who volunteered at the Museum during the 2013-2014 academic year.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector Professors, George Angelopoulos and Christos Panagiotakopoulos, a crowd of people, including students, teachers, members of volunteer organizations of Patras and members of the University community.

The event began with a keynote speech by Michael Paroussis, Professor of the Department of Philosophy, on "The Ethical Principles of Volunteering". This was followed by a presentation by the Vice President of the Friends Association of the STM, Mr. Costas Bourdoulis and a video screening about the contribution of Andreas Economopoulos, a living volunteer of the STM. In his memory, a diploma was awarded to his family, while diplomas were also awarded to those who contributed voluntarily to the STM.

Volunteers honored: teachers, members of the University community, young scientists, UP students, and schools for their cooperation with the STM within one or more Cultural Networks.

Sponsors honored: Gefyra S.A., KTEL Prefecture of Achaia S.A., Loux Marlafekas S.A. and Sideris Nuts.

The event closed with the concert of "A Companhia Artistica" a group of 4 graduate soloists led by the excellent pianist Maria Nikolopoulou, artistic director of the "Philippos Nakas" Conservatory and Maria Messari on the flute, Efi Kallistrou on the violin and Ioanna Kazantzidis on the cello. Also, two remarkable sopranos with remarkable biographies Poly Nikolopoulou (soprano) and Maroutsella Gasparinatou (mezzo-soprano) sang.

A small reception and guided tours of the permanent exhibition of the STM followed.
