Inauguration of the Science and Technology Museum

One year after its opening, the Science and Technology Museum was inaugurated by the General Secretary of the Region of Western Greece, Mr. Tassos Apostolopoulos, on May 17, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. After the cutting of the ribbon – and blessings, followed greetings from the Rector of the University of Patras, Professor, S. Koubias, and A. Zelilidis, Professor, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and acting Director of the STM and T. Apostolopoulos, General Secretary of the Region of Western Greece.

A concert by A Companhia Artistica & Bellacanta followed.

After the end of the concert followed a Reception and parallel guided tours of the participants.

The inauguration was accompanied by a series of events, organized for its Celebration:

• International Museum Day 2010, with the theme "Museums for Social Harmony", as proposed by the International Council of Museums-ICOM and celebrated around the world, on May 18, giving Museums the opportunity to meet the public and inform them about challenges offered by them,

• World Telecommunication Day 2010, proposed by the World Telecommunication Union, in commemoration of the founding of the World Telecommunication Union, on May 17, 1865, as a source of public information on the effects of Telecommunications on public and private life; and

    • Museum Night 2010,  established on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture and Communication and under the auspices of the Council of Europe and is celebrated throughout Europe every year on May 17.
