Water is the most precious commodity on Earth and a source of life that has contributed and continues to contribute to the development and evolution of human civilization. The consumption rates by modern societies have already begun to cause degradation of the quality of water systems, while anthropogenic intervention in water and in the environment in general to satisfy material needs has accumulated numerous impacts on the environment. At the same time, even today there is a great inequality in access to drinking water.

To reduce the negative impact on the environment and limit the anthropogenic footprint on climate change and lead to a prosperous world, a healthy planet, the Sustainable Development Goals propose: Ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation facilities for everyone, Climate Action, protection of life in water  and cooperation to achieve the goals. Quality education for all is the basis for improving human life and sustainable development, paving the way for fewer inequalities.

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Science and Technology Museum and the Department of Geology of the University of Patras, the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Achaia-Environmental Education and the Region of Western Greece join forces for water. Realizing that "only if we know is there a possibility of caring and protecting our natural heritage", museum and environmental education together, through experiential approach and interaction with natural heritage have the power to contribute to understanding and knowledge, while informing society.

In the event that will take place at the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras, on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 6:30 p.m., school groups that worked on environmental programs on the subject of water and/or have implemented the educational program of one of the water museum kits of the STM UP, they will present their work and/or experience.
