Training Day "The Science and Technology Museum as an Educational Tool in Secondary Education"

With great success was held at the Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras, on Friday, September 25, 2009, from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. the Training Day for Teachers of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia, on the topic: "The Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras as an Educational Tool in Secondary Education". The Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras and the Department of Cultural Affairs of the Directorate of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia organized the event.

The 150 Secondary Education teachers who participated were guided to the exhibition "Telecommunications in our lives", which operates in the area and were informed about the Educational Programs that take place there.

In the training day event, the goals and opportunities offered by the Museum to support educational processes for all levels of education and especially for Secondary Education were presented. Within the framework of the Conference, Working Groups were organized in collaboration with the teachers of the Secondary School for the greater utilization of the Educational programs of the Museum.

The event included a tour of the participants in the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras in groups, Greetings were given from S.Koubias, Professor, Rector of the University of Patras, A.Zelilidis, Professor, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and acting Director of the STM of the University of Patras, D.Zomenou, Director of Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia, M.Nikolopoulou and S.Kasviki, Head of Cultural Affairs of the Secondary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia.

The speakers were: P.Theologi-Gouti, Architect Mech-Ethnologist, STM UP "The Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras and its Educational Dimension", E. Vitoratos, Professor of the Department of Physics, UP, "Teaching: an Effort to Understand Nature", E.Pierri, School Counselor of Achaia, "Teaching Utilization of the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras in Secondary Education", N.Sissamberi, Teacher, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education "Museum Pedagogy of Natural Sciences: Educational Programs at the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras”.

The Conference closed with a discussion and screening of the film "From Beacons to the Ιnternet".
