Training Day "The Science and Technology Museum as an Extension of the Classroom in Primary Education"

The Training Day for Primary Education Teachers of the Prefecture of Achaia, on the topic: "The Science and Technology Museum" was successfully held at the Science and Technology Museum (STM) of the University of Patras, on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with the topic “The Science & Technology Museum as an extension of the classroom in primary education", was co-organized by the STM and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Artistic Games of the Directorate of Primary Education of the Prefecture of Achaia.

As part of the event, the teachers of Primary Education visited the Science and Technology Museum and were guided to the exhibition "Telecommunications in our lives" that operates in the area and were informed about the Educational Programs that take place there. The goals and opportunities offered by the Museum to support the educational process for all levels of education and especially for Primary Education were presented.

The event began with greetings from S.Koubias, Professor, Rector of the University of Patras, A.Zelilidis, Professor, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences and Acting Director of the STM of the University of Patras, P.Zevla, Head of Scientific and Pedagogical Teaching for Primary and Secondary Education, Eleni Dasiou, President of Patras Cultural Development Municipal Enterprise, Leonida Sotiropoulos, President of the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education of the University of Patras and a guided tour was given for the participants in the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras in groups.

Speeches were heard by: P.Theologi-Gouti, Architect Mech-Ethnologist, STM UP "The Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras and its Educational Dimension", V.Lagio, Head of Cultural Affairs and Artistic Games of Primary School Achaia, “Shall we go to a Museum? Before and after the visit to the Museum… ", N.Sissaberi, Teacher, Ph.D. candidate of the Department of Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education, University of Patras, "Museum of Natural Sciences Education: Educational Programs at the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras".

This was followed by a discussion and screening of the film "From Beacons to the Ιnternet".

Within the framework of the Conference, an Advisory Working Group was organized by elementary school teachers, for the organization of specialized Educational Programs that will support the real needs of Primary Education.
