During the school/academic year 2020-2021, the Science and Technology Museum and the Department of Health Education of Primary Education of Achaia, in collaboration with schools, implemented a Thematic Network on "Social media, social games: yesterday, today, tomorrow”.

Goals:

1. Exploring the concept of networking from real life to social media

2. Exploring the concept of a game from real life to social games

3. The recognition of the dangers and the negative impact of online games and the use of social media on children

4. Recognizing the benefits and positive effects of online games and social media on children

5. The cultivation of critical thinking in the use of positive judgement and in the avoidance of the negative

6. Dissemination of knowledge about social media and social games between different generations

Areas to be covered by the network:

  Social media

  • Real life networking and its possibilities
  • Social media and their capabilities
  • The advantages that social networking offers us
  • The risks and problems we may face
  • Ways we can use social media safely and creatively
  • Safe social media for everyone

1. Social games

  • Playing in real life and its effect on children
  • Social gaming and its possibilities
  • The positives that the online games offer us
  • The risks and problems we may face
  • Ways we can use social games safely and creatively
  • Safe games for everyone

Projects: An activity that will include theatrical, fairy tale, at least one artwork, pantomime, video that deals with and renders one or more of the topics, as described above or otherwise with the aim of interacting with parents and grandparents.

Activities that will be included in the network:

  • Introductory experiential event for networking and social networks in the school groups participating in the Network. It will be performed live on the STM or through a platform, depending on the prevailing conditions.
  • Possibility of participation of students-teachers in one of the Educational Programs of the STM for Internet safety by visit or through an online platform, depending on the prevailing conditions.
  • Final event for Museum Day with the participation of parents and grandparents in May 2021, live at the STM or through a platform, depending on the prevailing conditions. If conditions allow, at the final event the teams will exhibit their projects at the Science and Technology Museum.
