The Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras, the Departments of Cultural Affairs of Primary and Secondary Education of Achaia and the Primary and the Secondary Schools of Achaia are co-organizing for the school year 2018-2019, the Thematic Cultural Network of Schools “Giving life to books”.

 Objectives of the Network:

1. The recycling of a book, so that the books do not remain untouched in one library, but give life to another.

2. The opening of the Science and Technology Museum to new audiences.

3. Underlining the role of the Museums as Cultural Centers for the formation of new traditions.

Activities:

  • Training workshop for teachers on creative writing or literacy, November or December Wednesday afternoon.
  • Repository of Books for Exchange: Interested students, teachers, parents and citizens can bring their books to the Science and Technology Museum:
  • From May 13-16, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • On May 17, 2019,         from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • On May 18, 2019,         from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

For each book, a short legible text description of up to 30 words must be submitted. This description may refer to feelings and thoughts that gave birth to the book.

For each book that someone offers, he/she will receive a card certifying his/her offer and will be able to redeem it on the day of the final event.

  • Final Event for the International Museum Day, May 18, 2019.

From 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., interested parties can still deposit their books for exchange along with the short description.

The books will be wrapped and their titles will remain hidden. The only clue will be a brief description from their owners.

All books will be exhibited at stalls in the museum area, by age group.

The final event will take place from 7:00-9:00 p.m. on the same day.

  • Those who have a book delivery card to the STM will be able to choose a new book by giving the card.
  • Parallel reading program of texts in combination with music from the participating schools (live at the Museum with simultaneous live streaming or via radio).
