Teletypes/Teletype Model 33
They are electromechanical teleprinters designed for office use. The Model 33 was designed to fit in a small office space, match the other office equipment of the time, and operate up to two hours a day on average.
It is less durable and costs less than previous Teletype machines. Teletype Corporation introduced Model 33 as a commercial product in 1963. It was originally designed for the United States Navy. There are three versions of the Model.
Model 33 was one of the first products to use the newly-standardized ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), which was first published in 1963.
Due to its low price and ASCII compatibility, the Model 33 was widely used with early microcomputers and the large numbers of teleprinters that were sold strongly influenced quite a bit the standards that developed in the 1960s and 1970s.
They were purchased in the 1970s and operated in the Electronics Laboratory of the Department of Physics of the University of Patras.
