Van der Graaff Generator
A small Van der Graaff machine, suitable for demonstration of experiments. This type is used in museums and school laboratories.
The Van Der Graaff Generator was developed, in 1929, by Physicist Robert J. Van de Graaff, at Princeton University, USA, with the help of his colleague Nicholas Burke. The idea of the invention was based on the search for a way to produce electric charge through friction. It is used to accelerate particles, due to the enormous charge it accumulates.
