The Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras and the Greek Department of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) are co-organizing an Online Event / Round Table on the occasion of the European Academic Heritage Day, with the theme “University Museums: Serving the Community”, on December 13, 2021, at 6:30 p.m.

The European Academic Heritage Day has been established by the European Academic Heritage Network Universeum. It is celebrated every year on November 18 by University Museums / Collections and Universities across Europe with events, conferences and other activities and with free access to Museums and university collections.

The aim of the Celebration is to open university museums and collections to the community. Through a variety of activities, these museums reach out and motivate the general public to discover their wealth and to understand the importance of the university heritage, its contribution to the advancement of science and knowledge and its importance as an important component of European cultural identity.

The round table will be coordinated by Peny Theologi-Gouti, Curator of the Science and Technology Museum of the University of Patras. The participants will be Alexandra Bounia, Professor of Museology, University of the Aegean, Marlen Mouliou, Assistant Professor in Museum Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Nora Skouteri, Emeritus Professor of Folklore, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Poulakakis Nikolaos, Professor, Director of the Museum of Natural History of Crete, University of Crete. Esther Solomon, Assistant Professor, University of Ioannina, The audience will then have the opportunity to ask questions and a discussion will follow.

The event will be open to representatives and to the staff of the University Museums, ICOM members, and representatives of the Greek museum community and to anyone interested. Also included are the Rector's authorities, Deans and Heads of Departments that include Museums in their structures.
